A sleek, low-profile, NFPA-compliant goggle designed to fit comfortably over most prescription glasses. The high-temperature frame allows fast lens replacement. Patented Speed Clips make strap adjustments easy, even with gloves on. The snap-on/snap-off mounting system consists of simple low-profile posts on the sides of the helmet. Goggles can be used alone or with a faceshield. They can be stored on the front or back of the helmet, or quickly removed, as desired.

Bourke Eye Shield. Traditional styling with these clear bourke eyeshields.  Bourke eyeshields exceed US-OSHA (CFR 1910) NBSIR-1977.

Note: Images shown are the old bourkes. NEW NFPA bourkes will ship on helmets ordered with bourkes.

Eye Protection Combinations (ESS Goggles with Bourke eyeshield): NFPA-1971-2018 Compliant

4”  Tuffshield® Visor. Although it costs you no more than the clear and smoke visor options, we at TheFireStore believe the Tuffshield visor offers distinct advantages. We supply it as the standard equipment visor on all Cairns Traditional and Deluxe Configuration helmets for some very good reasons:  Tuffshield is significantly more heat resistant. The Tuffshield Defender visor is heat-resistant up to 500° F. Other visor materials will start to melt at about 345° Tuffshield is a heavier grade material with more impact resistance. As the name implies, it’s just tougher.

The slight yellowish tint helps you see better, day or night. Like a pair of amber shooting glasses, they filter out harsh wavelengths and glare, improving contrast and revealing more detail under all lighting conditions—including looking at flames.  4” amber Tuffshield visor is compliant with NFPA 1971, 2013 edition. All visors meet ANSI Z87.1+ impact requirements.

My Chief Helmet

by

Looks and fits like the OLD Leather New Yorkers, with updated adjustability and protection.

dont judge a book by its cover

by

this helmet is the best helmet i have ever worn. this helmet is a very reliable helmet.

To small

by

I bought this helmet for use on shift. I never got a chance to even wear it once for it was to small and very constricting all around. There was no size selection (one size fits all) when purchases. If you have a head bigger than 7"", this would be to small. Tried to adjust but did not solve the issue. internal guts seemed very cheap. Very disappointed overall.

kid size helmet

by

Junk junk junk !! This helmet is wayyyyyyyy to small DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS HELMET its just to freaking small!!!!! I am not happy I spent almost 300 on a helmet that I can't use!!!

Its a ""OK"" Helmet.

by

It was ok...The 1044 & 1010 is the best Helmets Cairns...880 is ok but Needs a lot of work.

Great helmet, but too small for my head

by

I got this helmet for Christmas. It's light, it's pretty comfortable despite being too small of my head. The plastic impact cap sits on the back of my head. It's light, and much less top heavy than the 1010 and 1044's I have tried. Unfortunately because of my large, and apparently oddly shaped head, it is on it's way back in exchange for a 1044. Ideally, find someone who has one and try it before you buy. But if you are looking for a traditional that is light weight, rides low and isn't too top heavy, this is the one! Get the deluxe too!

the 880

by

I've had this helmet for just over 2 years now and I think it's a great helmet. It's held up through fires and stuff falling on it just fine. It's lower profile and rides better than the 1044 and 1010 and which is great. I've got the standard version and do wish I had gone with the Deluxe version. Not a big deal though. I've got a fairly large head (although not huge) and the helmet fits fine, so I'm curious as to how big of a head it would take to not fit properly. The shield does seem huge at 6-1/4"" and I will be going through MSA soon to get a 5"" shield for it. Other than that, it's a great helmet.

Terrible helmet

by

This helmet sits too high on your head, which makes it top heavy. It wants to tip and fall off your head if you don't have it cinched down at all times. They're also incredibly uncomfortable. I get headaches from wearing it due to pressure points on the temple. We purchased Bullard helmets to replace these. They sit lower, and are very comfortable.

to heavy for a small helmet

by

I bought this helmet because of the low profile and which they claimed was light weight. Its not light weight at all!!! It gets heavy after a few minutes and starts falling all over the place, just doesnt sit right.... and trust me, i have a small head. Its also tight on my temple causing head aches. If your looking for a helmet youll be better off with the 1010 or 1044 which is much lighter and comfortable. Trust me!!! Too heavy for a small helmet!

AWSOME HELMET!!!!

by

I LOVE THIS HELMENT!!!! BEING A SMALL GUY WITH THIS HELMET FITS HEAD MUCH BETTER THAN SOME OF THE BIG DOME HELMETS. WHEN I FIRST TRIED IT ON IT SEEMED TO SIT TO HIGH BUT ONE OF THE REPS AT THE FIRE STORE HELPED ME ADJUST IT, NOW IT FITS PERFECT. EVEN HAS A ADJUSTABLE FRONT HEAD BAND THAT IS QUICK AND EASY TO FIT A MASK PEICE.THE LOW PROFILE AND LIGHT WEIGHT MAKE IT PERFECT FOR TIGHT SPACES AND LONG DURATIONS WEARING THIS HELMET. I HAVE HAD THIS HELMET FOR ABOUT TWO YEARS AND HAVE NOT FOUND ANY NEGITIVE POINT TO IT YET WITH THE ONE EXCEPTION BEING IF YOU HAVE A LARGE HEAD. I WOULD DEFFINATLY RECOMMED THIS HELMET!!!!

safety with out the size

by

Great helmet the 1000 series are just to big and clumsy for me. only wish they'd come out with an internal visor for it.

best helmet cairns makes

by

This helmet is awesome!!!!!

by

I've had this helmet for two years now and love it! If you want a great composite helmet this is the only one i will ever reccomend. Cairns is the way to go for a great helmet! I just ordered an N6A the other day, cant wait to get it!

Not what it's cracked to be

by

880 helmet

by

Every day use at fire dept.

You won't be disappointed!

by

This is the most low profile helmet I've seen. It fits really well and is extremely comfortable. One of the perks I really like is the ability to adjust the height of the helmet as it sits on the head. Also, I paid a little more for the deluxe model and the upgrade makes a difference as well. It's much nicer having that leather head band than the older, fabric ones I've had in the past. And the price overall, you can't beat. Since my purchase, I've received lots of compliments of house nice the helmet is and how you really don't see them a lot in my department or in the surrounding departments. Consequently, The Fire Store has sold a few more 880s because of my purchase. And I also highly recommend the FoxFire Tetrahedrons for your new 880. They look great and will almost illuminate a blacked out room on their own. Couple that with a FoxFire helmet band and you'll be seen no matter where you are and in just about any conditions.

Excellent Helmet!

by

I spec'd out this lid before and at FDIC this year since I was looking to replace my bullard. This helmet is a GREAT fit and is super comfortable. Some say its a little heavier than others but I disagree. Did a lot of research on Cairns Helmets and I liked what I saw. I highly recommend this model or any other Cairns Helmet.

A great helmet throughout the years

by

I have had several in different departments and have used both old and new 880's that I have bought myself because I have never liked the 1010's, 1044s, or New Yorkers. They have all been too top heavy and heavy in general and sit to high on my head and made my neck sore after an hour or so of use. I have never had that problem with an 880 and they have always fit great and sit low.

Works right, feels right, looks right

by

This helmet I think is better than the leathers. Safer, lighter, way less $$$. Easily customizable. The profile sits low, andthe dome piece is a similar shape and size to the old school leathers but with the NFPA specs to keep the wife and Chief happy.

BEST HELMET

by

The ""soft good "" head liner / deluxe package is the way to go with this helmet. My department has the 1010 model but I love the comfort, lightvweight, smaller brim and comfort of the 880 model.

All departments should have these

by

I use this helmet for everything we are called to on shift and any training I do on and off shift. This helmet feels like it was meant to fit my head and it's really comfortable so that it's easier to wear it all day if need be.

Helmet is perfect! However I was told it would come with the cover/pouch for the goggles which i never received with the helmet!

Q&A's:

"for this Helmet can or is there NFPA Bourkes that can fit on this??"

Good Afternoon, There are no NFPA Bourkes, the only way this helmet can become NFPA approved would be to have a face shield, or NFPA approved Goggles added to it, as it is now it's only an OSHA approved helmet. If you were to go to our web site and look at the MSA/Cairns helmets look under the 880 helmets you can see which models are approved andwhich one's are not. Have a great day / evening

"I'M LIVING IN TAMPA,FL AN I WISH TO KNOW HOW LONG ITS GONNA BE TO HAVE THE HELMET IN MY HAND?"

If we have your helmet in stock, it will leave our warehouse in 1-3 business days and then it takes 3 business days for ground shipping.

"Can I order the helmet with black ear flaps?"

It looks like you can not get this in black, they offer the yellow Nomex or the tan PBI/Kevlar only, the yellow is standard on the Cairns / MSA helmets that they call their standard models, and the PBI / Kevlar are standard on their Delux helmets

"hello the fire store my question is what is the difference the cairns 880 chicago and cairns 880 tradition what is the difference the twos helmets"

MSA/Cairns tells me the difference is in the shell. Quoted from customer service @ MSA ""the 880 that was introduced in 2003 had a high gloss finish to it. The new and current CHICAGO 880 has a matte finish similar to the 1044 model helmet"" The Matte finish is made to give the helmet a ""leather helmet look"" Also I'm being told the newer 880's have a scroll design on the back brim of the helmet. Hope this answers your question.

"What is the difference between the Standard 880 and the Deluxe 880?"

The standard model comes with a silk screen front holder, nomex ear flaps, and a flannel sweat band. The deluxe model has a craved Eagle holder for the frontice, a leather sweat band, and PBI ear flaps

"I have a N5A currently, but it is nearing the end of service. I like the look of the 880, however I wear a large helmet. Will the 880 adjust or is it more designed for smaller head sizes?"

The 880 should adjust to your head size, if a N5A fits you shouldn't have any trouble with an 880

"do you also ship to south africa - i am a collector and whould like to buy one of the cairns 880 chicago with 4 inc face shield- yellow collour."

Sure. When you get to the cart page, select the ""Int'l Checkout"" option.

"Most Cairns helmets are made of fiberglass composite or have a high-temp resin added. How does the ""high-temperature thermoplastic"" hold up as compared to the other helmets? Seems like it would begin to fail at a lower temperature because of the plastic."

Meets all the protection requirements of NFPA 1971-2007 (except Bourkes only model) All the helmets have to meet the NFPA standards, the only helmets that MSA makes that are not NFPA approved are the N5A NY leather, and a Natural color leather helmet,

"Can you get the postman strap with the 880? I know it's a option on other sites but I don't see it here."

Soft black Nomex chinstrap features one-hand quick-release buckle and postman slide for quick removal and adjustment If you order this be sure to spec that you want this chin strap

"How much does the 880 weigh? I have a 1010 and it feels quite heavy"

The Cairns 880 traditional fire helmet offers a tough, high-temperature thermoplastic shell resistant to chipping and cracking, and a low-ride helmet design creates a low-profile for superior clearance and maneuverability. The 880's smaller, LIGHTER, low-profile shell allows for optimum clearance and maneuverability, yet it has a very stable, balanced. The1010 weighs 56 Oz. I don't have the weight of the 880 but it is lighter, not a lot but lighter.

"Where do you request that you want a postman strap?"

Our web site, under the helmet section, Cairns Helmet parts. When you get there, you will find several listings for chin straps, you want part numbers C920 or 10046712. Both of these are for 880 helmets depending on which model you have(the older model or the newer model) C920 is the old style, and the 10046712 is for the newer model. Both are around $35.00, you can place your order from the web site.

"Is the deluxe eagle 5"" or 6""?"

DC, where did you come up with this 5"" or 6"" eagle? All traditional helmets manufactured by MSA use the same eagle for their holder, and the leather frontice is a 6"" front, the eagle makes no difference.

"so since the helmet ratchet is designed for 5 5/8 - 7 5/8, can it fit a just a medium size or all sizes of head?"

By what they are saying it would lead you to think it might be a little tight on a large head, we are going to contact MSA and ask for their thoughts on this.

"Can this helmet be ordered without the Lime/Yellow Tetrahedrons?"

MZ, MSA/Cairns will not put an NFPA sticker on the helmet with out the yellow or the red/orange Tetrahedrons, our suggestion would be to place your order for the helmet and remove them once you get it. if you want another color go to our web site and order a set of 8 tetrahedrons in what ever color you want.

"Is the deluxe eagle 5"" or 6""?"

Correction. The eagle on the nfpa 880 traditional with deluxe measures 4"" long. However the leather shield needs 6"" to reach . From brim to eagles mouth .

"Is the deluxe eagle 5"" or 6""?"

The Eagle that comes on the helmet With the deluxe package is a 5"". The one you order separately from fire store is a 6"". Beware if you order a leather shield from Paul Conway, their site leads you to order the 5"" leather shield. However it is a 6"" leather (I learned the hard way no returns ) the 6"" leather fits fine on the 5"" eagle lines up nice

"What is the difference between NFPA and OSHA ratings for the helmet besides eye protection?"

Eric the NFPA requires a more stricter testing especially in the area of eye protection, other than the eye protection the helmets are the same

"what size is the helmet? so i know ahead of time."

Three-position rear ratchet height adjust for a secure and comfortable fit, there is no set size, it's just like the other MSA helmets except the Leather N5A and N6A helmets

"I would like standard maltese cross front holder with deluxe suspension and kevlar ear shroud with bourkes. Is this possible and what would the price be?"

You will need to order the Deluxe option with the Bourke's, and the MSA-10049739 for the Maltese Cross, and replace the craved eagle yourself. you won't be able to order with those options 880 Deluxe $293.99 MSA-10049739 Maltese $19.99

"What does it mean by deluxe and standard?"

We have copied and posted the Standard and Deluxe difference's here for you, they also can be found on our web page under the 880 helmet. Standard Configuration Includes: -Maltese Cross Front Holder -Lime/Yellow Tetrahedrons -Matte Finish -Nomex earlaps. Deluxe Configuration Includes: -3D carved eagle -Lime/Yellow Tetrahedrons -Leather liner -Matte Finish -Kevlar earlaps.
