Through Triumph and Tragedy – 50 Years of the F.D.N.Y. Pipes & Drums is a documentary that celebrates the 50-year history of the bagpipe band of the New York City Fire Department. Formed in 1962 as a way for firefighters to celebrate their Irish heritage, the Pipes & Drums has since become one of the most important institutions in the F.D.N.Y. After September 11, 2001, the band made it their mission to play every funeral and memorial service for the 343 members of the Fire Department that died that day. Their courage and dedication have turned the band into a globally recognized organization and a symbol of freedom and honor. Chief of Department Edward Kilduff said it best: “The F.D.N.Y. Pipes & Drums are the heart and soul of the Fire Department.” Narrated by retired F.D.N.Y. firefighter, now character actor Jack McGee, Through Triumph and Tragedy is a fascinating look into the history of this famous and much beloved Fire Department band.
